Update from moms appt....

Update from yesterday....
Mom took a test that measures what she sees...she sees a little less than half of what a normal person sees.  The graph below shows the results....normal vision goes between 30 and 40...moms average is in the teens.

Also...tests reveal the signal going from retina to brain is poor.

The swelling has gone down since July...that's a plus!!!

She also has cateract that can be taken off and improve her vision too.  Might not be slit, but everything little but will be a benefit.

She goes back for a recheck in 3 months.

Ohhh....mom did the genetic testing yesterday, the results from the bloodwork will be back in about 8 weeks.  Depending on the gene, gene therapy may be used, and it could benefit her with a reversal or at least put the progression of vision loss in remission.

And since mom has severe hearing loss too, they said the vision problem and hearing loss are 100% related and it's called ushers syndrom.

So that's where we are standing.

Until next time.... High paw five

I have a question..

Yes mugs??!
Is mom getting an eye transplant??
Where did you hear that?
Dad told me... He said they are going to put cow eyes in...
Ohhhh Maggie!!!   Don't ever listen to dad!!

So it's not gonna happen?
Well mugs....I never said it's not going to happen....

Mom and dad on their way...

Well mugs...mom and dad are on their way to Baltimore...
Why??
Mom needs to get some testing done on her eyes.
What's wrong with moms eyes??  (Beginning to tear up)
It'll be ok, mom has retinitis pigmentosa really bad, but there's no cure for it...hopefully doctors are able to slow down the disease.  And since mom has severe hearing loss, the last appointment they found out it's all related and called ushers syndrom

But what will happen today??
She's going to go through some visual testing and have genetic testing since mom has a defective gene...which is what caused all of this.  If they find the defective gene and that gene is available.... Mom can get gene therapy to replace the defective gene.

Sounds confusion,,,,

Mom said the same thing in the beginning too.

We'll keep you posted
